Cheap & Cheerful Hen Party at Home Ideas. Planning a hen party on a budget? We've got 8 great ideas.. As a first time bridesmaid this year for my skin and blister, I've already had many ups and downs during the wedding planning, trying to prevent any ups and downs on the day. I won't lie, being a bridesmaid is sometimes tough (#firstworldproblems Lucy - Ed), but also incredibly rewarding. We're still 4 months away, but I've been busy organising the hen party for a while now, so there's been lots of discussion in the office about what to do. Hence this next instalment of my series of posts on Bridesmaid Duties - one thing that is a constant source of worry is how to manage the question of the dinero. Cash is always king (of concerns) and when organising a hen party you're juggling so many different people and budgets, it's something to really bear in mind. There's definitely been a switch to having hens that are more cost- effective and staying at home is really popular now, so today I've compiled my top list of 8 Cheap & Cheerful Ideas for a Hen Party at Home, to prove it can be just as fun and fab as a trip to Las Vegas, you just need to use a little more creativity - see what you think.. From the start of planning any Hen Party there are some key elements to remember and if you keep these 3 rules in mind you can't go far wrong: Know your bride and what she would enjoy. The main objective is to get all the pals together and celebrate the bride to be in all her glory. Make it fun! Every bride is unique, some are super girlie girls that would love nothing more than a pink cinderella themed party, while others would rather get worked up with a full on day of activities. Truly Old School - A Sleepover. Don't know about you, but one of my all time favourite things growing up was having my gal pals over for a sleepover. We may have grown up (a little) but the basic elements of a sleepover are still brilliant, plus now we can have some drinkies! It's perfect for a small group of close pals instead of going out on the razz, get together and have some proper chats. Choose a house, your own, a fellow bridesmaid's or the brides family home if her mum is onboard of course. Supply the goodies, sweets treats and all that good stuff. Buy lots of drinks (alcoholic and non- alcoholic). Plan some fun games, twister, truth or dare, charades, 'Pin the Tie on the Groom' - A really easy take on 'Pin the Tale on the Donkey', all you have to do is print out a large photograph of the hubby to be and a separate tie or bow tie and get some pins! Rent some girly movies - Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Clueless all the faves! Buy the bride some novelty pjs and slippers. Ask the guests to bring their own pjs (choose a colour or theme so you're all matching)and sleeping bag. Keep it simple the fun is having all her girlfriends together, add some drinkies and silliness and you'll be up all night! Cocktail Making Night (at home)It's a truth universally acknowledged that every girl loves a cocktail! Without heading to an actual class, it's pretty easy to save the pennies and do it at home, and it's a fun way to get everyone one involved in an activity. Choose recipes that you are comfortable making and teaching others to make, keep it simple with 3 different recipes. We've lots of posts about cocktails and there are amazing ones on Pinterest. Make sure you have plenty of ingredients (there will be accidents!) Most cocktails are mainly juice drinks or lemonades so it won't cost as much as you think. For the supplies you will need, chopping boards and knives, cocktail glasses, measuring jugs, shot glasses, cocktail shakers, decorations (little umbrellas, straws etc) and cleaning materials. Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Dealz and IKEA are filled with the stuff so pop in and stock up. And for after the "class" you could have a free for all and ask everyone to have a speciality in mind and vote on which is best, if you can think straight! This one is simple and depending on numbers should be reasonably inexpensive. Get good quality products from the local farmer's markets, lots of grapes and just have some chats. It's a quiet type of hen party but if you're entertaining older members of the family or you're just looking for something more civilised this could be the one. You can always have jagerbombs and tequila shots after the wine is gone!)Pot Luck Dinner. I love to be a host and love dinner parties but cooking for 1. I'm no Jamie Oliver! So when I discovered the concept of 'Pot Luck Dinner Parties' I was delighted and I think they are a great idea for hen parties on a budget. The rules are simple: Everybody brings something. How does it work you ask? Decide if you are having a theme like a Mexican or Italian night, or just a 'Pot Luck'. Depending on how many people are coming divide up the meals. If there are lots of guests ask some people to bring decorations, alcohol and props instead of cooking. Use people's talents. If you have Martha Stewert on your hands ask them to cook. If you have a crafty creative attending ask them to make some table decor, like individual name cards for the table. Make sure to get everyone involved. BBQWeather dependent unfortunately although I'm sure as Irish people you've all had 'Indoor BBQs' so you'll have no problem moving everything if it does get a little wet. A BBQ is a great way to get people together in a relaxed environment with some good food and wine. Camping (or your own version of Glamping)Something to get you out of the house for a little while, how about a Camping Hen Party? The key to throwing a camping themed Hen Party is to prepare. There are loads of fabulous spots around Ireland to set up camp, pop over to the Irish Camping and Caravan Council for all the information you'll need on location and guidelines. As for making camping a fantastic Hen Party on a budget don't forget: Make sure to tell the guests what supplies (clothing, sleeping bags etc) to bring. Borrow any items you can, you'd be surprised who has tents nowadays. Make sure to bring plenty of food and drink as you won't be near many shops. Plan some games. If you don't want to travel, consider camping in your back garden, you'll love having a loo close by! Image Credit: Paula Mc. Manus via One Fab Day. Murder Mystery Night. If mystery and mayhem is your thing, then what could be more fun than a Murder Mystery Night? For a taste of what would be in store check out our editor Naoise's 1. For all the rules and a guide on how to plan a murder mystery party, pop over to www. A group of 1. 0- 1. Murder Mystery (from experience they work best - Ed) and make sure to pick a really good theme or era - let everyone get their best gladrags Gatsby or Victoriana stylee. Fun! Clothes Swap Night. This is something I've been meaning to do for years and is the perfect head- clearer before the big day. A bit of banter and a few new bits and pieces for the wardrobe, it works brilliantly over dinner and a few drinkies. Especially if you bring some hilarious bits that you really should dump rather than inflict on someone else. Organise a venue, your house or your fellow bridesmaids. Give guests plenty of notice as they'll want to raid their closets. Make sure everyone is bringing good quality clothing that they still love but don't wear - No rags ladies! The fun of the night is trying on each other's clothes. You will get rid of your old clothing while having lots of giggles and you might even nab yourself something fab of your friend's that you've been eyeing for ages. Whatever You Do - Have Fun! The most important thing to remember is to have fun. All the bride really wants is to hang out with her besties so just make it happens! Best of luck with the planning ladies and make sure to check out our previous Hen Party posts for more ideas on how to throw the perfect party: 1.
